It Happened To Me: Bus Robbers, A Horrible Experience
My name is Patience and I am from Cross River state (Ogoja). I was born and brought up in Lagos, so you should know I’m a full Lagos babe, smart and alert at all times. But a recent experience made me understand that nobody can be too careful; it is just the grace of God that keeps us.
Where will I start from…
It was on the 21st of March,2017. I was on my way back from work; I work in Lekki but i live in Festac. I usually close at 5pm, but on this fateful day, we closed late because we had series of meetings. So, I left Lekki at about 8pm and took a bus to Costain. Getting to Costain, there was no bus and there were lots of people waiting. Lo and behold an empty bus came and heading to Orile, and everyone rushed in until the bus filled up.
Immediately we went up the bridge, the driver turned as if he wanted to pass through Surulere only for him to park at a dark corner. That was when we found out that some of the passengers in the bus were robbers who had stood with us at the bus stop acting like they were also waiting for a bus. We didn’t know that it was all planed and they were waiting for that particular bus.
These ‘fake passengers’ asked us to start passing our bags one by one. They took what they wanted, threw the bag aside and pushed us out from the bus, one by one. Two of the guys were with knives and one with a gun; if the gun was real or not, no one knew, but we all cooperated.
A man and a lady that struggled with them were injured badly; the robbers took everything they had and pushed them out of the bus leaving them bleeding on the side of the road. That man and lady would have lost their lives all for money or material things, because the robbers still went with everything and left them with severe injuries. Thank God for a Good man who stopped and helped them.
As for me, thank God that I was still holding N300 in my plam. It had been with me since I was at the bus stop and that was the money I used to get home. Many others were not that lucky as all they had was taken away.
So for me, the lesson from this story is that our lives are much more important than any valuables. We can get all our valuables back; it might take time but we will get it back.
But our lives can never be replaced.
