Chick Chat with Connie Girl: My Baby Daddy Gave Me Something Expensive Should I Tell My Boyfriend?

Hello Guys! Happy New Year! It’s the first Talk Tuesday and Chick Chat of 2016 and I’m excited about the opportunities the year will bring.

I’m 38 and divorced. I had a son with my ex who is now 16 and lives with me. It wasn’t a messy divorce but I was happy to be free from a one-sided and financially strained marriage. He didn’t work for nearly 5 years while I held the family together but now he seems to have gotten a steady job and is making ends meet.  We hardly speak since my son can communicate directly but he seems to think he still has a say in my life by some of his actions. On Christmas morning I was in my bedroom with my current boyfriend and my ex shows up at the door wanting to “see his son”.

I excused myself from the room shocked that he had shown up especially so early without calling. My BF lives out of town so he isn’t always with me. He is aware of our co-parenting status but may find it hard to understand why my EX is at my door on Christmas morning unannounced. He stayed in the room while I attended to my sons father who bought me a nice gift, tried to come inside but when I turned down his small talk he picked up our son and left.

I hid the gift in the living room closet before I went back in the room. It was a bag from a designer store and was more expensive than what my new BF got me. I accepted it not because of the value but a part of me felt I deserved it after all the crap I went through with him- carrying him for 5 years!

Should I be completely open with my BF or just keep it under wraps. Will the price tag of my baby fathers gift affect my BF’s ego or would he be mad I accepted it in the first place? Would you tell?
