President Jonathan Condoles With VP Sambo On Brother’s Death In Fatal Car Crash

Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to Vice President Namadi Sambo, Malam Umar Sani, on Sunday announced the death of Capt. Yusuf Sabo Sambo, the immediate younger brother to the Vice President.

Sani, who made the announcement in a statement in Abuja, said the younger Sambo died as a result of a fatal motor accident on Bill Clinton Drive, Airport Road, Abuja.

The statement said until his death, the deceased was a pilot, who worked with the former Nigerian Airways and the Presidential Air Fleet, before retiring to be on his own.

It stated that the late Capt. Sambo, who was born in 1956, died at the age of 58 years and was survived by his wife, three daughters, 10 brothers and sisters.

“He has since been buried at the Apo cemetery, Abuja according to Islamic rites.

“He was buried in the presence of former military President, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, former Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar and several other dignitaries and sympathisers,” the statement said.

“May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace and Almighty Allah grant him Aljannah Firdausi,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, President Goodluck  Jonathan and his wife, Patience, on Sunday led some top government officials to pay condolence visit to Vice President Namadi Sambo over the death of his brother, Yusuf.

Jonathan, at the Akinola Aguda House the official residence of the Vice President, described human beings as mere mortals, saying ‘death is a journey everybody must make.’

He said, “We are all mere mortals. All of us are from the Earth; we must all go back to the Earth. We do not know the timing of this journey all of us must make.

“This world is a place where we come to play our different roles. He (Yusuf) left too early.

“Maybe he left when the ovation is loudest. He left at a time we needed him most. But there is nothing we can do.”

The President also described the circumstances of the deceased’s death as saddening.

Sambo thanked the President for leading government officials to console him.
