On Wednesday, the 25th of February, 2015, 18-year old bride, Rahma Hussaini, stabbed her 24-year old husband, Basiru Tijjani to death. According to the reports gathered by Ibrahim Shuaibu for ThisDay Newspaper, says that the couple had a minor disagreement before neighbors heard the man scream. On getting there, the man was in his pool of blood. By the time he was rushed to the hospital, he was confirmed dead.

An eye witness told ThisDay that the marriage was not consensual. Thus, this could be the reason for the violent act of the bride on her husband. Rahma Hussaini has since been taken into police custody and is likely to face trial for the murder of the slaughter of her husband.

He said,

“I hear the man wanted to make love to her before she stabbed him. This lady may be too small to be married but in the end, she must have given her consent to the union. Secondly, I refuse to believe that an 18-year old could have taken the life of a man. It is disturbing to imagine”.

Abraham who is a PHD student in the United Kingdom blamed the system for Rahma’s action. He says,

“We live in a society where getting a divorce can be difficult. It is harder in Nigeria and probably the young girl has been through a lot of abuse in the marriage”.

Since Rahma is 18 years old, she is considered an adult according to the Nigerian Constitution. Owing to the circumstances that led to the violent action, the question becomes, should Rahma be made to face the law for murder or man slaughter?
