#RevolutionNow or when?

#RevolutionNow – if you’re new to the story, is the tag for this nation-wide protest against bad governance, spearheaded by Nigerian human rights activist, pro-democracy campaigner, former presidential candidate, and founder of online news agency Sahara Reporters – Mr. Sowore Omoyele.

Following his unlawful arrest last Saturday by SSS agents, it may have been lost on some to follow through with the protests but today, the people showed that #RevolutionNow is more than just a hashtag and certainly more than one man.

Protesters have taken to the streets and began their protests to bring some sort of sanity and justice to the systems that govern us.

But as if read from a poorly-written script, the protesters were met with the full force of the Nigerian Police who have arrested, harassed and opened fire on protesting civilians in different parts of Lagos state including surulere. A tyrant’s fairytale.

Speaking to objectTV Media, Femi Falana (SAN) who has sustained demand for good governance, has shown his disregard for the unlawful treatment of Mr Sowore as it is in his understanding of the law, that none of the terms of the protest being held fall under the constitutional definition of treason or terrorism.

The nation weeps and many have even let memory fall back on the previous government whose tenure compared to this may seem like a trip to Disneyland.

Our hope remains that we can use our voices to upset the powers that seek to trample us. Nigeria is our country and belongs to all of us. You can stop the protest, but you can’t stop the revolution. THE REVOLUTION IS NOW!
