Death toll rises in Benue state as herdsmen launch fresh attacks

Just barely 24 hours after two Catholic priests and 17 worshippers were killed by suspected herdsmen at Mbalom in Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State, herdsmen have launched fresh attacks on three communities in Guma Local Government Area of the state, killing not less than 39 persons.

Lives and properties have been destroyed.Several persons sustained injuries, with over 160 houses burnt to ashes, huts, and farmlands in the communities have been razed by fire.

The Speaker, Yakubu Dogara, presided over Wednesday’s session.

Meanwhile, members of the House of Representatives, yesterday, resolved to suspend plenary for three consecutive legislative days in protest against the cold-blood killing of Nigerians by herdsmen.

Baballe said, “We should summon Mr. President, he is the chief security officer of this country.

The President, Muhammadu Buhari has been invited to the house to explain why the wave of insecurity in the country has persisted, despite huge funds being expended on security.
