Emmy’s diary: And the Bills Go On (Part 2)

Well, I guess I should understand where he’s coming from, after all he foots most of the bills and PHCN can be funny at times. They don’t even give us enough electricity and yet they want us to pay 20,000 naira every month in our tiny apartment! HB gets so irritated when he sees the bill but decides to pay on time so as to avoid the embarrassment of disconnection.

The challenges we’ve faced so far just makes me appreciate my parents a lot. Living in Nigeria is a task! Even if I didn’t grow up in the UK, I spent enough years to claim IJGB (I just got back) and just enough to forget electricity isn’t 24/7 and internet speed is like walking from V.I to Lekki! Ok I exaggerate but you get the point. I really took a lot of things for granted; cost of diesel and data a month, that alone, especially in this recession can easily be half one’s paycheck! Paying the bills ourselves has definitely made me grow up. I now have to hustle like a proper adult and earn some money to survive, God dey!

Thinking back at the wedding, there were definitely a few things I could have done without or even gotten for cheaper, because now that I am in this situation, I just wish all the money spent on aso ebi, décor and so on, could have been reduced. We could have saved enough money to keep us going for at least a year and even for a second honeymoon. I’m thinking straight now because it’s over, tell this to a bride to be and she might bite your head off lol! I’m sha definitely going to be advising friends to just pick a color instead of aso ebi, that thing is a financial killer.

Hb broke my chain of thoughts by giving me a back rub, I guess he felt he overreacted. He explained calmly once more and even took us for ice cream, he’s so sweet. We continued gisting and ended the night on a very romantic note, we even didn’t want to leave each other the next morning…

Time to go now, totally forgot I was at the hospital. I’ve been having a slight pelvic pain and my fingers feel prickly like pins and needles on the tips, so I’ve come to see the doctor. Hmm… funny, I just remembered I’ve missed my period for 3 days now, maybe it’s stress. Anyway, time to go in.
