Does The Patient Dog Eat The Fattest Bone?

The Patient dog

We have all heard the proverb, ‘the patient dog eats the fattest bone’, In other words, you have to be very patient in everything you do. Do not be quick to anger, do not take shortcuts to success, and do not rush. When you do all these things, your reward will be great.

However, the counter truth to this is that there are situations where patient people always come last. This is because while other persons are going in the fast lane pursuing their dreams, you tell yourself to be patient. This may not really be patience, but complacency.

The problem with complacent people is that they do not know when to be patient and when to react or engage. They are always waiting for the right moment to take action. But if they do not make moves, this opportunity will never come, thus they relax in their comfort zone!

Say, for example, you submit a proposal to a particular company, and you don’t get a reply for months. You keep going back and forth without any response. Instead of moving on, you decide to be very patient. Fine, in this kind of situation you can be patient to some extent. However, your patience should have a tipping point where you just move on and submit that same proposal to other companies until it yields a positive result somewhere.

In another situation, however, your girlfriend may have offended you. Rather than reacting without patience, leading to emotional and verbal, you should be very patient. Better still, just walk away from the said situation.

So you see, not all situations are the same when you say a patient dog eats the fattest bone. Certain situations require you to be quick and swift, other circumstances demand that you should be patient. The ultimate is to know the right time to react and take action.

This does not necessarily mean that you should give up on your dreams. As earlier mentioned, know when to be patient and know when to take action. This is really the true meaning of a patient dog eating the fattest bone.

If you do not make this distinction, you will wait for the rest of your life to eat the fattest bone! So, we need to know when to be patient and when to act!
