#MyBirthingExperience: Omoyemi Shares Her Baby’s Near Death Experience After Her Placenta Erupted

African Stories Untold

Another episode of African Stories Untold – My Birthing Experience is here and this time we’re hearing from Omoyemi.

After her placenta erupted, Omoyemi’s baby had to fight for its life. For context, Placental Eruption is a serious pregnancy complication where the placenta detaches itself from the womb (uterus) prior to delivery. This can cut the baby’s oxygen flow and its access to nutrients. It could also lead to vaginal bleeding, back pain and stomach pain 12 weeks to the due date. Doctors told her it was either her or her baby – a very tough thing to hear and a hard call for her doctors. But after 7 minutes of resuscitation, her baby came back to life. And she is sharing her story with us.
