7 Reasons Why You Need A Makeup Setting Spray
Have you ever seen anyone whose face was so cakey, you could literally scratch the powder off with your fingers?
Or better still, have you had those makeup days when you looked like a ‘ghost’ after you applied all the powder, concealer and foundation?
Most of us have been there…
Thankfully, tw is here with a remedy for ‘cake face’. We are going to introduce you to a makeup product that not a lot of us have, but we all need.
It is called the Makeup Setting Spray (it goes by many other names: Makeup Mist, Makeup Fix, Makeup Mist & Fix). It is a liquid that comes in a bottle with a spray nozzle. The application process is simple: After applying your make-up, shake the bottle well and spritz the spray at arm’s length. Do not rub in, just allow it to dry naturally.
I know what you are thinking: “Here is an additional makeup product that I need to buy, in this recession!” But trust me, it is so worth it!
And If you are still sceptical, here are six reasons that I am sure will change your mind.
- It acts as a top coat to your makeup. It does not change the colour or texture of your makeup; it simply sets the makeup and makes sure your makeup lasts all day.
- It can also be used to mist sponges (beauty blenders and wedges) for easier application of concealers and foundations.
- It stops your foundation and powder from ‘cracking’, especially on your T zone nose.
- If you have oily skin, it keeps your skin matte (depending on the one you use).
- If you use a Powder Foundation (like the Mac Studio Fix), it eliminates any whitecast and allows the powder to blend in properly with your skin.
- If you have dry skin, it adds moisture to your skin.
- If you have a powder that is a shade lighter than your skin, after using it, the powder will match (or almost match your skin tone!)
What I Recommend
Classic Mist and Fix
So here is the gist. I have looked high and low for good setting sprays. I have spent thousands of Naira trying different brands, and finally, after many skin breakouts and irritations, I found one that works for me.
It is the Classic Mist and Fix. I literally swear by this setting spray; yes, it is that good. It contains Vitamin A, C & E, Aloe Green Tea and Cucumber. And it is perfect for people with oily skin because it does not have any oils or silicones in it. When I spray it on my face, it just sinks into my pores disappears, and I have not had any breakouts since I started using it (it is alcohol free). And the best part that it is so pocket friendly. You can get it between N2,000 and N3,000 depending on where you buy it.
We also have the Zaron Perfect Finish Spray (N3,400) and the Kuddy Makeup Fix Spray (N2,600). I have tried both and I think they are pretty good.

What The Beauty Community Recommends
If you do a search on google, you will see many setting sprays coming up which can be a bit overwhelming. From my research, I found one high end and low end setting spray that are good for all skin types.
High End – Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray – $31
According to Urban Decay, this setting spray stops makeup from melting and fading and keeps makeup looking gorgeous for up to sixteen hours. It can also be used on all skin types. Cosmopolitan Magazine gives this setting spray a 10/10. On Amazon and Makeup Alley, it has four stars, while it has 5 stars on the Urban Decay website.
Low End – Elf Makeup Mist and Set – $3
This inexpensive and easy pick boasts of aloe, green tea, cucumber and vitamins A, C and E for moisture and purported long wear ability. It’s also alcohol-free, which some folks can be sensitive to. It has a four-star rating on Amazon and on the elf website, and a 3.5 rating on Makeup Alley.
If you want more options, you can search online or better still, you can take a trip to your local beauty shop this weekend. Just remember to look at the ingredients (check for alcohol, especially if your skin reacts to it). Also, if you go to beauty store, ask for a sample so you can try it first before you invest your money in something that does not work for you. Lastly, if you see something you like, check the reviews online to see if people with skin tone recommend it.
