Flash Back Friday – tw’s Second Year Anniversary Party

tw Magazine turns 10 tomorrow!!!

Yipee!!!

For the past decade, with 87 editions, we have dished out wholesome and inspirational content for today’s woman, and it has been a wonderful and exciting journey so far.

To celebrate this huge milestone, we are taking a look at some of our most memorable moments through the years.

One of them is our second year Anniversary, which we celebrated on the 1st of October 2009.

It was a fun filled day filled with a lot of music, comedy and food.

Here is a walk down memory lane….

Nothing says party quite like an anniversary and we at TW had two to celebrate: our second year anniversary and Nigeria’s leap into its 50th year. Almost half a century as a nation and 2 years in this business?

Lots to celebrate to be sure!

Olumide Dada soothed the restive crowd (as we had gotten off to somewhat of a late start) with his delightful tenor. We kicked the party off with Waje before GZK dazzled with some fab tops from her range. The ever soulful Djinee could not help but woo the ladies with the help of the fantastic live band, and he certainly had all the ladies sighing with his song ‘Pillow’. Koffi took the mood from sultry to seriously funny with his hilarious routine, followed by some slick moves from the always entertaining singer, Obiwon. New songstress Patigi (debuting on the night) quickly followed and Lepacious Bose soon had us all ROTFLing (Rolling on the Floor Laughing). Then came some of the best moments of the evening—accompanied by her son, the rapper Kaka—Christie Essien Igbokwe, as energetic as ever, had the audience enjoying some classic grooves. Onyeka Onwenu, thrilled the audience with her classic hits and drew them into dancing, singing and all the fun, before the fireworks went off at midnight! Olumide Dada ushered in Nigeria’s 49th Birthday with the national anthem. Onyeka performed ‘One Love’ which was capped with a fabulous duet by both our Nigerian Divas.

Bringer of the ‘W Experience’ Mr. Banky W himself, led the second half of our fabulous evening with Helen Paul bringing the comedy. StylPlus energised us with their hits like Olufunmi and also lifted us with their acappella anthem, and Xclamations! did not disappoint with some great outfits from her new collection.

We were there till the lights went out! For that reason, some acts could not get their chance to shine, and so we would like to thank in particular Stella Damasus for graciously letting her band support the other acts for the evening. So for those who couldn’t join us this year, save the date because it is, definitely going to be bigger, badder and better (and on time) for our Nation’s 50th.
