Favor Takes New York – Day 1 at New York Fashion Week

My name is Favor Olugu and I am a Fashion Stylist, Fashion and Style Editor of tw Magazine and Fashion Blogger.

I am currently on holiday in New York, and here, I will be showing you everything I get up to this holiday.

First, we begin with the New York Fashion Week….

Enjoy!

NYFW Day 1

I was running a little behind schedule, I guess part of me still functioned on “Nigerian / African time”. Hehe…

I arrived at the Desigual Show at Skylight Clarkson Square, the main venue for New York Fashion Week just in time to be told that my priority standing seat designation had already been occupied upon my later arrival and shortly after was motioned to stand with the press. But I absolutely didn’t mind; anything was better than nothing at all.

The Desigual spring /summer 18 show was vibrant, entertaining and multicultural with hints of Asian, African, Indian and western influences all infused one playful and lively show that featured professional dancers alongside models donning sailor stripes, polkadots, florals, knitwear and street style pieces with symbols and inscriptions.

Next stop was the 29 Rooms press preview by Refinery29, a prominent online fashion and lifestyle platform. Being a religious reader of the website, my friend Frankie and I was super excited to attend this event.

The theme of this year’s event was Turn it Into Art and from the moment I stepped foot into the interactive fun house, I was immediately blown away by all the creativity and innovation that was put into each installation. Every one of the 29 Rooms was a wonder in its own, some of my favorite installations were the Ulta Beauty Carousel, Viva La Juicy Icicles, the Women’s March and more. Frankie and I got lost exploring the rooms that we almost lost track of time.

Our Uber arrived in a short while and we headed to SoHo to watch the New York School of Design’s fashion presentation. Though rookies compared to the big shot designers who’ll be showcasing their collections this fashion week, the young fashion students: T Squared, Vonnel Gibson, Sentelle, Maria Alia and more were far from rookies. The detail in their work was impeccable. I loved the menswear designs the most particularly because they were wearable street style pieces most especially Sentelle New York whose collection was a fusion of the futuristic and throwback 90’s hip hop style.

We dashed by Skylight Clarkson one last time to take street style photos of the NYFW attendees when I ran into former super model, Cindy Crawford, Leandra Medine of Manrepeller and Nigerian menswear blogger, Efe Tommy of Uber Style.

At a little after 2 pm, Frankie and I decided on a little retail therapy in SoHo to take the edge off, but after what appeared to be a failed attempt at finding the perfect (and affordable, obviously) thigh high boots, we decided to call it a day.

So that was my first day at NYFW!!

Watch out for Day 2!
