Working For Your Marriage by Chioma Momah

Portrait Of Young Couple Sitting In Park

Like most things in life a good marriage is the result of hard work. At every stage you must keep on educating yourself on what you can do to make your marriage more enjoyable. After being married for over 12 here’s some stuff I’ve learnt along the way.

  • Surround yourself with good examples : Why not seek out couples  who have a great marriage and learn from them? Even more important is ensuring you avoid hanging around people who habitually speak negatively about their partners.
  • Speak the same emotional language: Learn what your spouse’s love language is. If your husband loves being appreciated for every little thing then by all means indulge him, if your wife likes receiving gifts then please buy them no matter how small. At the end of day a happy spouse makes marriage a whole lot easier.
  • Tend your Garden: The grass is usually not greener on the other side and for all you know that green vibrant garden your neighbor has may be synthetic- fake! Rather than wishing you were like another couple invest time into watering your own garden and with time you will find your marriage is becoming as green and rich as you desire it to be.
  • Date night!: Date nights are a time when you and your significant other can do stuff without the children. It could consist of going to a point and kill joint, a restaurant or the movies. Just ensure you are able to spend quality time together.
  • Learn to forgive: In even the best marriage offences will come so it’s essential we learn how to forgive and truly forget. Forgive current offences and resist the urge to start digging up old ones.
  • Hugs and Kisses! :  Physical touch goes a long way in creating a feeling of love. Also realize that physical touch doesn’t always mean the bedroom but could be something simple as a warm embrace or a gentle kiss. Even when you’re upset with your spouse a simple hug can go a long way in dousing the tension.

So keep on working at it!
