President Obama Again Leaves Nigeria off his Africa Trip Itinerary | ThisDAY

Nigeria felt slighted when President Barack Obama overlooked the vast nation on his first African trip as head of state in 2009, instead visiting its shrimp-sized neighbour, Ghana, where he lauded the smaller country’s democratic achievements.

Obama left Nigeria out again in his 2013 visit to Africa. Now, as he prepares for his third and likely final trip to the continent as president, Nigeria is once more being bypassed in favour of Kenya and Ethiopia.

Cholera in war-torn South Sudan has spread to another state, with at least 39 dead since an outbreak was declared last month, the World Heath Organization (WHO) said Tuesday.

A total of 1,212 cholera cases including 39 deaths have been recorded, according to WHO figures, with the highly contagious infection spreading from the capital Juba in Central Equatoria to neighbouring Jonglei state, one of the worst-affected areas by the 19-month civil war.

The 2015 MTV Africa Music Awards has been concluded with Nigeria as the biggest winner of the night.

Nigeria again dominated this year’s MTV Africa Music Awards, MAMA, carting away most of the coveted trophies.

Leading the way was Davido, who retained his title as Africa’s Best male Artiste of the year. Yemi Alade won the Best Female category while P-Square was voted as Best Group and also Artist of the Decade. Patoranking went home with the Best New Act trophy, Dorobucci was rated as the Song of the Year and the Kokomaster, D’banj won the maiden MAMA Evolution. The joint effort of South African artistes- AKA, Da LES & JR and Nigeria’s Burna Boy was rated as the Best Collaboration.

On Monday, an independent panel appointed by Toshiba said the firm had overstated its operating profit by a total of 151.8bn yen ($1.22bn, £780m).

Texas authorities on Monday released a three-hour video taken from outside a jail cell where an Illinois woman arrested during a traffic stop was found dead.

The video from a motion-operated camera shows there was no activity for 90 minutes in the hallway leading to the cell where authorities say 28-year-old Sandra Bland was found hanged on July 13, three days after her arrest.
