Hot Summer Trend: The Little Black Leather Dress Leather
It looks like the traditional little black dress is set to get a seriously stylish upgrade.
A trend is emerging this summer, and it’s getting a little hard to write it all off as a mere coincidence. In case you haven’t noticed, the red carpet set has sneakily added another L to that ever-popular acronym LBD (Little Black Dress), and it stands for…wait for it… leather!
Actress Mandy Moore slipped into her slinky leather sheath dress and a pair of black ankle-strap sandals. Leggy Reality TV star Kelly Bensimon styled her flouncy skater-style dress with a pair of silver pumps. Singer LeAnn Rimes’ jazzed up her loose t-shirt-style frock with Givenchy’s Leather Knee-High Sheath Boots (from their pre-fall 2012 collection). Actress Angie Harmon accessorized her short curved hem ensemble with a silver clutch and a matching pair of Jimmy Choos. And Gemma Arterton dressed up her boatneck, long-sleeved, fitted variation with a metallic clutch and pair of classic black pumps.
See how versatile it is? And this should go without saying, but even though they’re cool enough to work during the hot days of summer, a little leather dress can easily be transitioned into fall; just add thick opaque tights and layer it underneath a chunky cardigan.
